Mr Mister are back, one last time with their final album

Mr. Mister is a multi-platinum group with the #1 classic hits "Broken Wings" and "Kyrie." In 1990 they created their fourth album “Pull” , but because of record company politics, the album was never released and the band members moved on to other projects.

Since then, lead singer Richard Page has written songs for artists such as Madonna, Celine Dion, Leona Lewis and Josh Groban among many others.
Editors note: Not very rock and roll I know, but he's also written material with many rock acts too, during Mr. Mister downtime, as well as providing background vocals and more on different artist's albums.

Over three decades, Richard has had hundreds of songs recorded, written three number one hits, had a number one album—Mr. Mister’s "Welcome to the Real World"—and recorded two highly regarded solo albums, "Shelter Me" and most recently, “Peculiar Life”, produced by Oingo Boingo alum Richard Gibbs and featuring legendary drummer and old friend, Vinnie Colaiuta. He also was one half of the critically acclaimed group, 3rd Matinee and collaborated with Weather Report keyboardist, the late Joe Zawinul.

Most recently, Richard toured with Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band playing bass and singing his hits along with fellow All-Starr’s Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Gary Wright, Wally Palmer and Gregg Bissonette.

Most recently, Richard created his own indy label, Little Dume Recordings and with a little help from industry friends, has secured the rights to finally release the “lost” Mr. Mister album “Pull.” It will be available at www.littledumerecordings.com/ in October 2010.
A new website is on the way for the band, so follow what's happening right here:

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP ROCKS THE BAHAMAS AT ATLANTIS, PARADISE ISLAND IN FEBRUARY 2011

First-Ever Tropics Camp Features Special Guest Counselors
Tommy Lee, Ace Frehley and Lita Ford
The Who’s Roger Daltrey Slated to Host New York City Rock Camp in January

LOS ANGELES (November 11, 2010) — Can you imagine playing lead guitar for Motley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee or jamming alongside KISS icon Ace Frehley and pioneering Runaways rock goddess Lita Ford in front of a live, screaming and standing-room-only crowd? For many people, this is a lifelong fantasy; at Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp, it becomes reality. From February 17th to 20th at the world-famous Atlantis, Paradise Island in The Bahamas, rock enthusiasts and amateur musicians from all walks of life will have the opportunity to interact with, learn from, jam with and perform alongside their idols as part of the rock camp that became the centerpiece of VH1 Classic’s new series – also called Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp – which debuted October 16th as the most watched series premiere in network history.

Over the four-day camp, counselors will kick-start campers’ hearts – and rock skills – transforming them from rock hobbyists into arena maestros. In addition to guest counselors Lee, Frehley and Ford, Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp at Atlantis will feature several of the rock star counselors from the Mark Burnett-produced VH1 Classic show, including Rudy Sarzo of Quiet Riot, Kip Winger of Winger, and renowned singer/songwriter Mark Hudson (Aerosmith), plus Alan White of YES, George Lynch of Dokken, and many others.

“The Bahamas is going to rock like never before when Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp invades Atlantis Resort with an unprecedented line-up of some of the most celebrated rockers on the planet, all there for one reason: to make rock ‘n’ roll magic by transforming amateurs into rock stars,” says Rock Camp founder/CEO David Fishof. “Where else can someone with a passion for music spend four days playing with and learning from rock icons like Tommy Lee, Ace Frehley and Lita Ford? Our Bahamas camp will be one of our most life-changing events ever produced.”

From the minute campers arrive in the Bahamas, their rock ‘n’ roll adventure begins. Campers will form their own bands; meet, jam with and receive intensive and ongoing instruction from the rock star counselors; spend over 10 hours a day in-studio jamming and creating original music under the guidance of a famous rock musician; take a variety of specialized master classes conducted by rock icons; break bread with industry insiders; and play live before a jam packed crowd at Atlantis, Paradise Island.

There are three packages – the four-day Rock Star package, and six-day Headliner and the Groupie packages – allowing campers a variety of options to tap into their inner Robert Plant.

“Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp premiered as the most watched show in VH1 Classic history for a reason,” added Fishof. “Our Atlantis camp this February will be one of our most star-studded camps ever.”

Prior to the Bahamas camp, Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp takes New York City by storm January 12th to 17th with help from special guest counselor Roger Daltrey of The Who, one of the most iconic front men in rock history. Additionally, this fall, in conjunction with the VH1 Classic series, Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp is criss-crossing the nation, bringing a series of “Weekend Warrior” Camps to several cities. The tour, which kicked off in Philadelphia on October 22nd, is led by Allman Brothers legend Dickey Betts and ends in Chicago (Nov. 19-21). Spots are still available in Chicago.

.... And finally ...
Led Zeppelin 2 tour dates ...

Now let me guess, this has got your attention right?
Led Zeppelin 2? Who's in the band to be able to use the name, right ...?
Well, actually, none of the members of Led Zeppelin at all, so how can they use the name one wonders?
I don't really know the true legal angle on this, but I'm guessing they AREN'T calling it 'just' Led Zeppelin so perhaps they can get away with it!
The band are represented by an agency out of New York, The Windish Agency, LLC so I don't know, sounds all very professional and you can check out more here, including their tour dates! Interesting ...

Thin Lizzy to re-issue redone versions of three classic Lizzy albums

Classic Rock magazine is reporting - No official source is currently backing up the statement ... As usual! - that Thin Lizzy are to reissue remixed, remastered, by both Scott Gorham and Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, new versions of Jailbreak, Johnny The Fox and Live and Dangerous.

Each album is being reissued as double disc sets with the exception of Live and Dangerous which will be two CD's plus a live DVD. - The old Live and Dangerous at the Rainbow theatre by the looks as things.
The disappointing thing for me, is OK, so they are remixing the albums - Great! - but the bonus tracks, are basically just different versions of the original tracks, except for just one or two tracks that were not previously released in any format as Lizzy tracks.
On Jailbreak there's 'Blues Boy,' a previously unreleased - by Lizzy - track, a Brian Robertson / Phil Lynott composition but I actually have this on a Brian Robertson EP from a few years ago, on a project called The Clan.
Jailbreak also has 'Cowboy Song' as 'Derby Blues.'

Johnny The Fox has an unreleased Scott Gorham composition, going out here as 'Scott's Tune.'

Live and Dangerous has the 17 tracks that were on the original album, split across two disc's now plus
two bonus live tracks in 'Opium Trail' and 'Bad Reputation,' which to be honest may well be the from the 'Killers Live EP' but they are identified as 'Wild One L and D outakes.'

An update regarding the recent passing of Jim Clench from the April Wine camp

MONTREAL - Jim Clench, a bassist and vocalist who played with Canadian rock bands April Wine and Bachman Turner Overdrive, has died at 61.

April Wine bandmate Brian Greenway says Clench died Tuesday in a Montreal hospital after fighting Stage 4 lung cancer.
Clench was not married and had no children.

Clench joined April Wine in 1970 after the release of the band's first album and played bass and added vocals to the mix until 1975.
He went on to join Bachman Turner Overdrive, before returning to April Wine in 1992 and staying with the band through 2006. He also wrote songs for the band, including fan favourite "Oowatanite." More here:

A personal note from Myles Goodwyn
The news of Jims` death has left me numb and like many others I`m sure.. melancholy. I met Jim in 1970 the year April Wine came to Montreal from Nova Scotia. When Jim Henman left April Wine in 1971, I asked Jim to join the group which he did, and so began an amazing 19 year fraternity.

He was a hell of a bass player and possessed one of the most unique voices in rock. I had the pleasure of writing songs with him in the 70`s , although my most-liked songs of his, he penned alone... Oowatanite, Cat`s Claw and my personal fave, You Opened Up My Eyes.

Jim was one of the smartest, funniest and most giving persons I ever met. When Jim passed on, on Monday, he left a lot of friends and fans saddened. His illness was sudden, and a surprise to myself and to the other members of April Wine.. I`m sorry that I didn`t have a chance to personally say goodbye. Perhaps we`ll get the chance to say hello again some day... and write some more tunes together.
Rest in peace Jimmy.

Brief Rock News update for Tuesday 9th November, 2010

Monsters of British Rock new band announced

A new classic rock band has formed featuring ex-members of Whitesnake, Wishbone Ash, Thunder, Virginia Wolf, amongst others and it looks perhaps a little interesting!
Here's the Press release from their website:

Six of the UK's most highly-esteemed and experienced rock musicians have joined forces to create Monsters of British Rock! Original Whitesnake members Micky Moody and Neil Murray have teamed up with Laurie Wisefield (Wishbone Ash), Harry James (Thunder), Chris Ousey (Heartland) and Michael Bramwell (We Will Rock You) to bring you classic twin-guitar based rock as it should be played.

Playing classic rock songs that they helped create, such as Whitesnake's Here I Go Again, Fool For Your Loving, Don't Break My Heart Again, Ready An' Willing and Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City, together with other hits from the band members' back catalogue, Monsters of British Rock are the genuine article.

The list of world-class bands and musicians that the members of Monsters of British Rock have collectively played with runs into literally hundreds: Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Magnum, Queen & Paul Rodgers, just to name a few.

This is one Monster of a rock band!
Micky Moody - guitar, slide guitar, vocals
Neil Murray - bass
Laurie Wisefield - guitar, vocals
Harry James - drums, vocals
Chris Ousey - lead vocals
Michael Bramwell – keyboards

Late extra note:
In a kind of link to this new band's coming into being, it seems a band that featured former Thunder and current Magnum drummer Harry James, alongside other Thunder maker, Chris Childs not to mention Danny Vaughn (Tyketto), Carl Sentance (Persian Risk, Krokus, etc) as well as Jon Pease and Dave Bishop line up that was, 'The 80's Rocked' has now been completely replaced and has changed dramatically!
Here's a link - That's still available right now - that tells you more on that band that had played this years Cambridge Rock Festival:

The 'new' line up and further details of the current line up of 'The 80's Rock', can be found here - A word of warning ... You may not know any of them!:
How sad ....

Queen Joins Universal
Island Records prepares 40th anniversary remasters of the quartet’s extraordinary catalogue

LONDON, November, 2010 – Queen and Universal Music Group have signed an exclusive, long-term agreement on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking group’s formation, in 1971.

With worldwide album sales of more than 170 million, No. 1 albums, singles and DVDs the world over, inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, over 700 concerts performed in every corner of the world including their historic appearance at Live Aid, and a Guinness Book of World Records award for the most successful UK album chart act in history, Queen represent one of the most remarkable, compelling stories in popular culture.

Their music milestones include “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are The Champions,” “We Will Rock You,” “Radio Ga Ga,” and “Another One Bites The Dust.”

The new agreement with Universal Music covers the world outside North America, and the music of Queen will appear through Island Records from January 1, 2011. Thus, the band joins some of the greatest names in popular music under the palm tree of the legendary label’s iconic logo.

Brian May of Queen said, “We are very excited, after all this time, to be embarking on a new phase of our career – with a new record company – with new ideas, and new dreams.”

Universal Music Group (UMG) co-CEO Lucian Grainge said: “Queen rewrote the rock & roll rule book 40 years ago, and you can count at least three generations of artists who are under their influence. So now we’re under their influence at Universal Music, and looking forward to writing chapters together for the new rule book.”

UMG International COO Max Hole commented, “A band of Queen’s stature, and a catalogue with such appeal, present an immense opportunity for a new creative approach. We aim to apply fresh thinking and innovation to the marketing and promotion of this great body of work. Ted Cockle, Darcus Beese and their team at Island Records are the perfect match, and everyone can’t wait to get started.”

During the course of the anniversary year, Island will remaster and repackage, with additional content, each of Queen’s 15 studio albums. The first five will be made available in March: “Queen,” “Queen II,” “Sheer Heart Attack,” “A Night At The Opera” and “A Day At The Races.”

After four decades, the collective work of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon continues to resonate around the globe, inspiring a host of diverse artists from Lady Gaga (who took her name from Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga), Axl Rose and Katy Perry through to Dave Grohl. Two decades after the death of their phenomenal and flamboyant singer, Freddie Mercury remains an icon beyond measure.

The 40th anniversary celebrations begin with a major Queen exhibition in London, “Stormtroopers in Stilettos,” opening in late February. This will be followed by a BBC-TV documentary and the production of a major Hollywood film about the band, starring Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury. Acclaimed script writer Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) is working on the project, which is being produced by GK Films, Robert de Niro’s Tribeca Productions and Queen Films.

Hi folks, good morning ... Sorry no news update for today ... Yet!
Hope your weekend was great, today is our Wedding Anniversary (7th!) and this past weekend to celebrate Rhonda and I headed up to Toronto, Ontario, Canada to go and see a great British, that should read Scottish, comedian in the shape of Billy Connolly.
The guy is 67 years old now or should that be young, as the guys spritely humour never lets up!
We had a great time and met up with my old mate Dave and his wonderful other half and shared a few after the show ... Good to catch up again mate!
We also met Stuart (Hope I spelt it right man!?) who was originally from Paisley, Scotland but has lived in Toronto for the last 30 years of his life. Stuart mate, you are a character! Great to meet you. - BTW - Did you get the picture off the wall or not mate!? LOL!

Anyway, have to run, 5 or so hour drive ahead of me and some work colleagues, so I need to get on the road.
I hope to post an update later this evening, if not, you'll see something tomorrow here.
Have a great day folks and a better week!
Cheers, Al.
