Brief News Update for Thursday September 6th, 2012

Hiya folks,
Yes, this is an exciting news piece that I had to say something about, as many of you know, I'm a huge Night Ranger fan, so I cannot express enough how cool this upcoming package looks!
Chances are, I'll have to beg, steal or borrow to get BOTH the DVD and CD to review though, as typically my Frontiers contacts will only provide me with a music download, so it's unlikely I'll see a DVD of this .... :(

On another note, a very special one, David Paich (Toto), has given our interview his blessing and boy, it's a long one with some great info in there!
I am now working on formatting the info and with it being SO long, the internet alongside blogger.com do not help and each time I try to do any more formatting, it locks up, great!
Anyway, it WILL be posted soon, so PLEASE stick with me and keep coming back!
David Paich has not done a full length interview in years, so, keep your eyes peeled!
Cheers,
Al

NIGHT RANGER TO RELEASE LIVE CD/DVD PACKAGE:

“24 STRINGS & A DRUMMER – LIVE & ACOUSTIC”
DUE OUT IN OCTOBER VIA FRONTIERS RECORDS

As a celebration of the 30th anniversary of their debut album DAWN PATROL and hot on the heels of their 10th studio album, SOMEWHERE IN CALIFORNIA, Night Ranger will release a very special newly-recorded live “greatest hits” CD/DVD package: 24 STRINGS & A DRUMMER – LIVE & ACOUSTIC is due out on October 19th in Europe and October 22nd in North America via Frontiers Records

The album and DVD were recorded live in an intimate, all-acoustic setting with a select number of fans at TRI Studios in San Rafael, CA in May, 2012 and features some of their greatest hits such as “(You Can Still) Rock In America” and “Sister Christian” with refreshing new acoustic arrangements.
The result is a testament to Night Ranger’s stellar live show and the strength of their songwriting abilities.

Night Ranger’s profile has been particularly high of late, with the band recently appearing on an episode of ABC’s “Bachelor Pad” during the final challenge and Night Ranger frontman Jack Blades performing live during the Republican National Convention.
Night Ranger’s legendary hits "Sister Christian," "(You Can Still) Rock in America," and "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" are songs that have each significantly impacted popular culture and expanded their ever-growing fanbase since the band’s inception thirty years ago. Over the years, the band’s music has made notable contributions to and been featured in many different areas of media and popular culture.  Night Ranger’s songs can be heard in the Rock Band and Guitar Hero video games; Rock of Ages hit Broadway musical and film; the Oscar-nominated film Boogie Nights; FOX’s hit TV Show American Dad; JBL’s “Hear The Truth” campaign; and many more!
To date, Night Ranger has sold 17 million units worldwide and boasts several platinum- and gold-certified albums.

Black Country Communion, coming to an end?

Sad news possibly on the cards with Black Country Communion, as Glenn Hughes seems to not be a 100%, happy camper!

Seems he's thinking new album 'Afterglow,' may well be the bands last.
Why? Lack of live roadwork!

He wants to tour the band, big time, but scheduling is clearly tough, due to Joe Bonamassa's popularity and own personal tour dates.

He's said this, in part of an interview with ABC news:
“I hate to break it to you, but it just may be the last album – I need to be in a band that tours on a regular basis.

“If I had a magic wand I’d wave it over everybody’s head and go, ‘Hey, you guys, we’re going to go and do 200 shows and we’re going to be a huge rock’n'roll band globally.’”

But he adds: “It’s not gonna happen.”

He’d referred to scheduling problems in the past, saying Bonamassa’s limited availability had left him in charge of main songwriting duties. But that presented its own opportunity.

Hughes explains: “I figured that is this was to be the last album, I needed to come up with some pretty wild and epic tracks. I’m really proud of this album.”

Sad indeed if you ask me ...

Uriah Heep returning to the USA in November

The legendary classic rockers, the mighty Uriah Heep will soon be returning to the USA to play live dates here in November.

The band's last album, 'Into the Wild' released last year, was a gem that if you haven't heard it, I strongly recommend you go check it out!
My review can be read here:

Mick Box and his road warriors, are wrapping up European lives date and start a run of - currently - nine live shows stateside, starting in Pennsylvania at Penn's Peak, in Jim Thorpe - Really?! - on November 1st and wrapping up as things stand in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the River Spirit Casino on the 16th of the month.

Seems kind of short to me and I hope they slot in one or two more dates, one this way would be fantastic!

Since 2004 was the last time they've played here, I've given up on expecting any Detroit date ... Shame ...

Really miss my old favourite British rockers ...
