30 Years on, Roger Waters tours The Wall again

It's now been a while since Roger Waters officially left Pink Floyd and went it alone, that said, the guy has always pulled in various talented muso's to join him on the road, each time he tours.
Well, it's now been 30 years since Pink Floyd's The Wall was let loose and now Waters want to tour it again, why ..?
Read on in his own words!

Roger Waters, 2010

I recently came across this quote of mine from 22 years ago:

"What it comes down to for me is this: Will the technologies of communication in our culture, serve to enlighten us and help us to understand one another better, or will they deceive us and keep us apart?”

I believe this is still a supremely relevant question and the jury is out. There is a lot of commercial clutter on the net, and a lot of propaganda, but I have a sense that just beneath the surface understanding is gaining ground. We just have to keep blogging, keep twittering, keep communicating, keep sharing ideas.

30 Years ago when I wrote The Wall I was a frightened young man. Well not that young, I was 36 years old.
It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with it’s concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns.: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever!
All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.

This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent lost in the intervening years.
In some quarters, among the chattering classes, there exists a cynical view that human beings as a collective are incapable of developing more ‘humane’ ie, kinder, more generous, more cooperative, more empathetic relationships with one another.
I disagree.
In my view it is too early in our story to leap to such a conclusion, we are after all a very young species.
I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other.

I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to express my, albeit guarded, optimism, and encourage others to do the same. To quote the great man, ” You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

BRET MICHAELS RUSHED INTO EMERGENCY SURGERY

Moments before he was to take the stage last night (April 11th) in San Antonio, Doctors at Sea World urged Bret Michaels to go to the hospital as the singer had been suffering all day from severe stomach pains and what was assumed to be a severe case of the flu. After further examination by doctors in San Antonio it was determined that the singer was suffering from an acute appendicitis. He was rushed into emergency surgery at 1:00 a.m.. According to doctors, Michaels, who remains in the hospital, is doing well and beginning the recovery process.

Michaels who has been known to perform under extreme conditions that would make most performers cancel, will unfortunately have no choice but to reschedule some of his April tour dates. A listing of all dates being rescheduled will be posted to his website in the coming days.

Here's to a quick recovery for the guy!

BILLY IDOL - NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

BILLY IDOL TO FOLLOW OVERSEAS SUMMER TOUR WITH CROSS COUNTRY U.S. DATES

Following his overseas appearances of major European festivals, British singer-songwriter and rock icon BILLY IDOL will hit the road with a six-week U.S. tour kicking off August 5 in Washington. Tour stops include Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas and Las Vegas, among others. For this tour, IDOL will be joined by his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens, Stephen McGrath on bass and Derek Sherinian on keyboards as well as his recently announced new bandmates: acclaimed guitarist Billy Morrison and drummer Jeremy Colson.
This tour marks the legendary rocker’s first U.S. tour since 2008. ....

On these dates IDOL will be performing classics from his storied career. As leader of the group responsible for starting a youth cult, Generation X, he was one of the original British punks who gave the rock establishment a good kick up the arse with such classics as "Ready, Steady, Go," "Wild Youth," "Your Generation" and "Dancing With Myself," the latter of which marked the transition to IDOL's solo career when it appeared in remixed version on his 1981 DON'T STOP EP. ....

Other show-stoppers will likely include hits from the Grammy and MTV nominee’s multi-platinum selling career including “Hot In The City,” “White Wedding,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” “To Be A Lover” and the #1 smash “Mony Mony.” He long ago found a way to take that sneering punk attitude into the pop and rock mainstream, carving out songs that have lasted a lifetime. All of these classics are included on 2008’s The Very Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself, a career-spanning CD, Deluxe Edition CD/DVD and digital collection (Capitol/EMI). His immortal “Rebel Yell” was also featured on 2008’s Guitar Hero® World Tour game. In 2009, Eagle Rock Entertainment released IDOL’s first in-concert DVD “In Super Overdrive Live” (filmed at the Congress Theatre in Chicago). ....
