Joe Elliott talks new Def Leppard live album and about Down 'n' Outz

Joe Elliott has been talking to Billboards Gary Graff - The man from Detroit, who writes for everyone, but is truly elusive! - about a new Def Leppard live album from 2009 dates and his latest side project Down 'n' Outz. Read on ...

Even as Joe Elliott releases the first album by his side project, Down 'n' Outz, Def Leppard is hatching plans for some archival projects in 2011. Elliott tells http://www.billboard.com/ that the group, which is taking 2010 off from touring, is putting together a live album culled from its 2009 tour that may include some new material as well.

"We've got tentative plans to do a four- or five-track EP of new songs as part of it," Elliott explains, citing inspiration from previous concert releases such as Kiss' "Alive II," Ian Hunter's "Welcome to the Club" and Genesis' "Three Sides Live," all of which included fresh songs.
The set will actually be Def Leppard's first full-scale live album, since the group has only released concert recordings on compilations and recent deluxe editions of "Pyromania," "Hysteria" and "Adrenalize."

"There'll be stuff from this century on it -- 'Rock On,' 'Nine Lives,' 'Come On Come On,' " Elliott notes. "Vivian [Campbell] has been in the band 17 years, so I think he deserves a shot at being on a live record. We've got a live video out from the Steve [Clark] era, [1989's] 'In the Round, In Your Face;' I've always said before that if you're desperate to hear us live, put that video on and turn your telly off and just listen to the sound."

Status Quo - In The Army Now - Help for Heroes

On 26 September 2010, Status Quo will release a brand new version of their classic hit "In The Army Now" through Universal / UMC. All profits from this updated and lyrically-reworked version of a true fan favourite will be donated equally to the British Forces Foundation and Help For Heroes charities.
The former is dedicated to boosting the morale of British troops in whichever theatre they serve, and the latter provides direct support for injured personnel.

Francis Rossi said, "It seemed like the right time to do this. This release is intended to show our support for the Allied Forces around the world, but in particular, of course, the British Armed Forces. We want people to celebrate what they do, say thank you and also support these vital charities."
Rick Parfitt added, "We've even roped the Army in to help us create a stunning video that will really give the song some heavy firepower. We're also lobbying the Government to waive VAT on the single".

Recorded just weeks ago at the Vestry Hall of the London College of Music, the track was, once again, produced by Pip Williams. This 2010 recording features male and female backing singers from the Corps of Army Music.

The "In The Army Now" single is aimed at refocusing attention on the amazing job being done for us around the world by the Armed Forces and also in raising some much needed funds to better support those who need it most. Status Quo are delighted to get involved with these two charities and hope that the British public connect with the campaign too.
