Rock News for Friday 24th September, 2010

Hi all, don't worry the news is coming ....!
I just thought I'd post a note here as something, I guess is appearing more and more obvious to me with this site.
It seems when I just post news here, I don't get as many visitors as I do if I "only" post a CD, DVD, gig review or interview - and yes, I know those have been thin on the ground. You have no idea how much work it is searching around sometimes for those news stories!
So here's the thing and I'd really welcome your comments at the bottom of today news post if you could or feel free to email me: alun_williams@comcast.net

To perhaps get more focus on what it seems you all like more to read, I may start to reduce the news items, to simply what I receive in terms of official press releases from my various sources.
That way, I can get through more of the CD reviews that I'm getting further and further behind on - I'm typing this at 11pm by the way ... - as the day job is more and more demanding lately and I do have a family too so my time to update the site is often very limited.
Of course, if the demand here increases more I may look at bigger things ... ;-)
Please let me know your thoughts, if it seems no one cares either way, then I'll just go ahead with my focus on more reviews and less news.
Thanks folks! So, here's those news items for now! Cheers, Al.
Journey new album details ...

Well, I guess 'those details' are really ..., still on the way!
Journey have just, OK a few days ago ..., posted the following news update on their site:

September 20, 2010 - NEW ALBUM COMING IN 2011

Journey is very happy to announce that a brand new album will be coming sometime in 2011 as well as new tour dates! Stay tuned right here for all the latest news!

Kind of disappointing really ... How little detail! No title? No month of release given? Will it be Spring, Summer or Fall?
I'd place money I guess on it being Spring, with summer tour dates to follow. Historically it's when Journey have most successful with touring.
We'll see ... Sorry to get your hopes up, now you can feel as disappointed as I was, after getting excited to see the headline at the site, then clicking on it revealed nothing else new and no more details on it. :(

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of THE POODLES live package including the “No Quarter” CD and “In The Flesh” DVD on November 5th 2010.

Having carved in stone their reputation as prime time entertainers with the release of three acclaimed studio albums and over 350 shows in the entire Europe in the past few years, not counting Gold and Platinum record awards in their home country, THE POODLES close the first chapter of their musical adventure and set their sails for the next step.

As a tribute to the first years on the road, THE POODLES offer the fans a live package including a CD and a DVD recorded during the “Clash of the Elements” tour in 2009, which portrays the band in the most natural environment: the live show. “The high points for us as a band is anytime we go on stage”, says guitar player Henrik Bergqvist. “This may sound like somewhat of a cliché but it is no less true. It doesn't matter if we play a crowd of 10.000 people at Graspop or in front of a handful on a rainy November Monday in Copenhagen, those are the moments we relish and live for. We've had so many special moments on stage over the past couple of years that it seems impossible to single even a few of them out. Having said this, some special moments can certainly be seen on the live DVD and heard on the live CD”.

“We are very proud of how the live CD and live DVD turned out and we feel that they really shows what the band is like on stage” continues Bergqvist, “being able to watch a DVD of your favourite band is great and there are a few really nice ones out there, but the connection that takes place between the band and the crowd during live shows cannot be formatted to the screen. You can catch a glimpse of it, but to experience a band live will always be different from listening to or viewing a recording of that band. Have a look and see for yourselves, though!”

Aptly titled “In The Flesh” the DVD is a real in deep look at the Poodles style of life with in-deep interviews, that present each band member, behind-the stage instant footage and a collection of the promo videoclips shot for the “Clash of the Elements” promotion. In addition, a selection of the band’s classic cuts performed live shows that the Poodles are delivering the goods when the play live. The live cd, soundtrack of the DVD, plus the song “Lullaby For Jimmy” as cd exclusive, shows that behind the look and the words there is a solid band playing great music!

Henrik concludes: “The future plans for The Poodles is closely connected to the band's cooperation with Frontiers Records. The band expects to play for an ever expanding audience as a result of it and take the mission of Heavy Metal to virgin lands. We want to see our beloved fans again on the road and make new friends too. The future is bright for us, and that's good because we already wear shades!”

The live CD “No Quarter” tracklisting includes:

Too Much Of Everything; Caroline; Seven Seas; Metal Will Stand Tall; Like No Tomorrow; One Out Of Ten; Lullaby For Jimmy; Drum Solo; Echoes From The Past; Thunderball; I Rule The Night; Night Of Passion; Flesh & Blood; Line Of Fire.

And so to the DVD ....

The Live DVD “In The Flesh” table of contents include:
Movie: Introduction; Stockholm, Party & Fun; About The Poodles; Metal Standing Tall; The Director & Crew; Being On Top; Jakob; Henrik; Pontus; Kicken; The First Five Rows; Tribute To The Fans; End Credits.

Concert: Too Much Of Everything; Caroline; Seven Seas; Metal Will Stand Tall; Like No Tomorrow; One Out Of Ten; Echoes From The Past; Thunderball; I Rule The Night; Night Of Passion; Flesh & Blood; Line Of Fire.

Extras: Like No Tomorrow (Video); I Rule The Night (Video); In The Flesh (Video); Warrior (The Movie Trailer); Majestic Film And Metal Warriors

The DVD will be released in NTSC Region Free format with Screen 16:9 and Mix in 2.0.
There will also be a limited release of a luxury packaging including the live CD “No Quarter” and the DVD “In The Flesh” is a luxury digipak edition.

Side note folks: I've also noticed that Newman have new 'The Art of Balance' tour t-shirts available through his site, which I would imagine will be available when the band plays the Firefest 2010 festival, at the end of next month: www.thefirefest.com/

Cult movie-master Rob Zombie to partner with Paranormal Activity team for next film LORDS OF SALEM

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 23, 2010) - In an announcement made today, Haunted Movies partner Jason Blum unveiled plans for the company’s next picture, The Lords of Salem, to be directed by Rob Zombie from a script by Zombie.
Set in modern-day Salem, the film involves the demonic return of a 300-year-old coven of witches.

This is the third entry in a new horror slate deal between Haunted Movies and Alliance Films. The first picture to come out of this partnership is Insidious, written and directed by the original Saw team of James Wan and Leigh Whannel, and starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. Insidious recently premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival on September 14 and immediately was the subject of a bidding war, which was won by Sony Pictures Worldwide, who will handle the release of the film later this year. The second picture is The Bay, helmed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson and currently shooting in South Carolina.

Octane, IM Global's genre arm, is handling international sales on the Haunted Movies slate, including on The Lords of Salem.

Zombie has experienced great commercial success as the writer and director of five feature films, and as one of the defining rock music icons of his generation. He’s been nominated for 7 Grammys and has sold over 15 million albums worldwide. His film credits include the cult smash House of 1000 Corpses (Lionsgate 2003) and its landmark sequel The Devil’s Rejects (Lionsgate 2005), the animated film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (Film Roman 2009), and the record-breaking blockbuster re-imagining of John Carpenter’s Halloween (Dimension 2007), along with its sequel Halloween 2 (Dimension 2009), which gave new life to the franchise.

Haunted Movies is a partnership between Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, and Oren Peli, the same team behind the box-office phenomenon Paranormal Activity (Paramount 2009) and Paranormal Activity 2 (set for release by Paramount this October).

The Lords of Salem will be produced by Blum, Schneider, and Peli, Zombie, and Zombie’s producing partner Andy Gould. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik will executive produce.

Zombie currently is about to embark on a three week tour of debauchery with Alice Cooper on The Halloween Hootenanny Tour with special guests Murderdolls. The tour kicks off in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Thursday, September 30th and will criss-cross the USA with a tour de force of ghoulish s delights for your aural pleasure, giving the fans a show of a lifetime.
