Rock News Update for Friday 14th January, 2011

Journey update - Album's not here yet but 2 US dates before the European tour kicks off in the summer

Yes folks, I know it's been a big talking point, what's going on with Journey ...?
Will we see a new album ..., before the European tour kicks off in the Summer?!
Apparently the album is recorded and produced by Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Rush, Aerosmith, Black Country Communion, etc), although Shirley revealed in an interview with Andrew McNiece at http://www.melodicrock.com/ that he did not do the final mix ... Interesting eh?

We'll, I'm kind of like the rest of you all and really don't know anymore on that actual release date, except the strong word is March. I'm also thinking the Walmart deal that saw the release of 'Revelation' may well have been a one off and we should all be hearing a full press release anytime soon.
Meantime, perhaps as a warm up airing for some new material, the band have two live shows coming up in February, in Nevada.
What's more rock fans, if you make it to one of the shows, you'll get a double whammy treat as Night Ranger are opening for them!

The two live dates are:

Wednesday February 23, 2011 - LAS VEGAS, NV - PLANET HOLLYWOOD
Special Guest: Night Ranger
Ticket details:

Friday February 25, 2011 - RENO, NV - RENO EVENTS CENTER
Special Guest: Night Ranger
Ticket details:

Journey's official site is: www.journeymusic.com/

Who knows, you may even be treated to a new Night Ranger song or two as well, since those guys have been messing around in the studio with new material too.

More on Night Ranger ...

2011 NAMM Winter convention in Anaheim, California, Taylor Guitars has assembled an all-star artist lineup to perform over three days of the annual trade show, held January 13-16. An eclectic array of acts will play on Taylor's performance stage starting each day at 2:00 p.m.

The Night Ranger guys will also be doing their usual spot at the N.A.M.M. event, in fact this Friday 14th (Today!) appearing at 5pm as part of a Taylor Guitars demonstration.

Friday, January 14
2:00 p.m. The Airborne Toxic Event
3:30 p.m. Ed Robertson and Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies
5:00 p.m. Night Ranger

Last year Night Ranger packed the house for an acoustic set. This year they’re going electric, and we can’t wait for those double lead guitars to kick in.

Deep Purple slight update for fans and announce 3 Mexican shows and then some ...

I guess Deep Purple aren't saying anything about any new band album and Steve Morse got bored and has a 'side' band recording a new album with ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy along with multi-talented musician Neal Morse (Spocks Beard, Transatlantic) and others ...
More on that project here:

Moving on, Deep Purple have lined up three Mexico shows for February 2011 and one South American show in March.
The shows are as follows:
Tue. 2.22.11 - Guadalajara, Mexico
Wed 2.23.11 - Mexico City, Mexico
Thu. 2.24.11 - Monterrey, Mexico
More info on those here:

Then the 'Original' http://www.highwaystar.com/ site has announced more tour dates including the above three shows, then the show in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 15th, 2011 before the band then two days later they head to Russia (!) for further March shows and beyond. Details here:

Steve Lukather interview on BBC radio
