Brief News Update for Thursday 21st June, 2012

Geoff Tate and Queensryche go their separate ways

Well, speculation has been running wild, really for the past six to twelve months if the truth be known ... Will Queensryche, with Geoff Tate on lead vocals, continue?
The answer, catagorically from the other band members is NO!

All other current 'ryche members, sans Tate of course, recently played two low key shows in Seattle with Crimson Glory vocalist, Todd La Torre as 'new' band Rising West, but ...
After the two shows, the band members gave cryptic remarks to press that Rising West was a temporary sideline, before 'they' moved forward with Torre ...
'Chambers of Rock' reported on this back on June 1st ...

Now it's all crystal clear, as the band revealed all to Billboard.com ...

In an exclusive interview with Billboard, Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfield said this:
"Over the past few months, there have been growing creative differences within Queensryche. We want our fans to know that we hoped to find a common resolution, but in the end parting ways with Geoff was the best way for everyone to move forward in a positive direction," drummer Scott Rockenfield said in a statement. "We wish him the best of luck with all of his future endeavors. We can't wait to bring Queensryche to our fans with Todd behind the microphone."

The band have even released an updated photo ..., of Queensryche, featuring Todd La Torre!

The 'new' Queensryche June 2012, with Todd La Torre!

Todd La Torre even said this earlier today on his Facebook page:
'I am not a "former member" of Crimson Glory. Both bands are fully aware of my involvement. Crimson Glory is still alive and well, and we are continuing to write material for the new record. Queensryche enters a new chapter, buckle up.'

Go over to the 'official' Queensryche Facebook page and this statement stands, clearly giving 'their' backing to Geoff Tate:
'Details and statements coming soon. 'LIKE' https://www.facebook.com/GeoffTateOfficial and don't miss a beat.'

Gerry Bron, producer and founder of Bronze Records passes away
March 1933 - June 2012

At the time of this update, it was just breaking that the founder of Bronze Records, Gerry Bron had passed away.

Mick Box of Uriah Heep posted this through the bands website, since Gerry Bron signed Uriah Heep, many, many moons ago to the old Bronze label, from the Vertigo label:

"I have just received an email from Gerry Bron's son Richard,
to say that Gerry had passed away!

Gerry was a big part of the 'Heep legacy in the early days,
and our thoughts are with his family!
Mick Box"

A lot of folks may not be aware of this, but Bronze Records in fact had some other name acts that broke through with them, those acts such as Manfred Mann's Earth Band, even Motorhead (Yuck!), Girlschool too, Hawkwind, Colosseum (Who featured Dave 'Clem' Clempson and Jon Hiseman), Osibisa, Paladin, Sally Oldfield (Mike's sister), UK AOR band Bronz (Who featured Max Bacon of GTR fame, on lead vocals) and even punk rock legends The Damned amongst many ...

He was quite the well known and respected character.

RIP Gerry Bron, our thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Scott Johnson RIP

On a side note, Uriah Heep also had this to say about the tragic death of Scott Johnson, who was killed in the Radiohead tragedy this past weekend:

'We were all saddened to hear the news from Canada that Scott Johnson has died while working on the Radiohead tour.

Scott had previously been a member of the Uriah Heep technical crew, and we all recognized Scott's consummate professionalism, and cheerful disposition, as he effortlessly dealt with life on the road.
We are gutted, and our thoughts are with Scott's friends and family.
Uriah Heep'

RIP Scott, our sympathies to your family also.

That's really all the relevant news that I have for you today folks, there's odd's and ends, like Def Leppard re-recording old material to wrap up their 'legally binding stuff' with their old label, but that's best read here:

Likewsie Lita Ford hints at possible new Runaways activities, but that remains to be seen, here:

Other than that, not much ...
