News Update for Tuesday November 13th, 2013

Hi folks,
Sorry it's been so quiet, regular readers, you know the story and I'm sure don't need to hear it again. It's just life ....
I did catch Dio Disciples this past Saturday evening here in Detroit and the guys put on a great show!
Go and see them seriously!
Tim 'Ripper' Owens and Oni Logan sharing vocal duties, do a formidable job between them, in paying respect to Ronnie James Dio (RIP).
Thank you guys, loved the gig and great to catch up with you after the show, review is on the way if you're reading this!

Anyway folks, have a great rest of the week, no more gigs on the horizon currently although I'd love to see T.S.O. this Christmas, it's been a couple of years since I caught their Christmas show and I've never got any invite to review them live, so it's probably not going to happen this year or any time soon. Ah well ...
Cheers, Al

Journey's Arnel Pineda's in vocal trouble

Journey are being forced to cancel shows on their current tour with Pat Benatar and Loverboy, due to vocalist Arnel Pineda's voice being in trouble.

Isn't this a familiar story since Steve Perry has gone?
Steve Augeri, Steve Perry's original replacement in Journey, had his voice pushed to the max after having more or less given up the music industry, then being plucked back into by Journey, thanks to former manager, Herbie Herbert.
Augeri had joined Journey in 1998, after Herbie Herbert had pointed out Augeri's talents - Herbert had also managed Augeri's pre-Journey band Tall Stories. - to Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain.

Augeri lasted until 2006, recording two albums ('Arrival' and 'Generations'), one E.P. ('Red 13'), 'Remember Me' his brilliant studio debut with Journey that featured on the 'Armageddon' movie soundtrack album and the video / DVD of his show with Journey in Vegas titled 'Journey 2001' which has since achieved platinum status.
During the band's 2006 tour, amid speculation that backing tapes were being used, it was revealed that Augeri was suffering with larynx problems - 'Chronic Throat Infection.' - and another great talent stepped in.

Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen, Talisman, Soul SirkUS) replaced Augeri, mid-summer tour in 2006 with Def Leppard and all seemed to be going well, for about a year and Soto had even revealed online that the band and he, had been writing new material ...
Soon after that statement, in 2007, Journey let Soto go ... No real reason ...

In 2007 Journey announced that had found via You Tube, a huge talent in Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda, who's video's with his band The Zoo, were pointed out to Neal Schon.
The rest is history as they say, but now five years on, after Journey's continuous and vigorous tour schedule, five years in, on November 8th, Journey announced that Arnel Pineda has been diagnosed with severe laryngeal and esophageal inflammation and is under doctor's orders not to perform currently, that is until Thursday this week.

So far Journey have cancelled / postponed the following dates:

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the iWireless Center in Moline, IL

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Tyson Center in Sioux City, IA

Arnel has been diagnosed with severe laryngeal and esophageal inflammation and is under doctor's orders not to perform for the next week.

The JOURNEY tour will resume:

UFO Kick off North American Tour This Week

British Hard Rock legends UFO will be kicking off their North American West Coast tour this Thursday November 15th in Chicago, IL. The band is touring in support of their latest album Seven Deadly which was released earlier this year via Steamhammer/SPV. A complete list of dates can be found below.

Guitarist Vinnie Moore commented on the upcoming tour:

"It's been quite a while since we've toured in the USA and I'm really looking forward to it. We have not played here since the new record came out and it's going to be exciting to play some of the new tunes. And it is always great to see our awesome fans!"

Seven Deadly is an atmospherically dense fabric consisting of classy guitars, tight rock grooves and vocals which are unique to UFO. Ultimate-Guitar says of Seven Deadly: "UFO has re-entered back through Earth's atmosphere to bring the world another excellent, classic sounding album and it is one you must pick up."

You can read Chambers of Rock's review of Seven Deadly right here:

UFO frontman Phil Mogg's thoroughly impressive vocal performance goes hand in hand with the awesome compositions on Seven Deadly. The classic rock of "Burn Your House Down" features all the important UFO strengths, "Mojotown" sees the musicians sound tougher than ever, and last but not least "Year Of The Gun" features a pointed reference to UFO's early days.

Seven Deadly is available for purchase on AMAZON and iTunes.
