Hi All, finally it's Friday, yes!!!
Let the weekend begin!
Hope you all have a great one, Cheers, Al

Toto announce more US live dates

It's been a few years now since US fans of the multi talented band Toto, were treated to any live dates, but finally, David Paich, Steve Lukather and the gang are going ahead with some live dates, here in the States.

Well, I guess don't get too excited, as they are really not going that crazy, but originally it was just two California dates, now there's three more added for when the band plays back on home soil, in September.
The sad thing for many fans, is that they are still restricting this run of shows to pretty much the West Coast.

No word on any new recording at this time and as David Paich told me in an interview earlier this year - Yes, I know, it's not posted yet! Getting these interviews typed up, believe me ... Takes forever! - that the recording period of the band is considered over ...
I sincerely hope they rethink that, as there is such talent within these guys, as their heritage clearly speaks for itself on.

US Live shows confirmed so far:

Thursday - 13 - Sep - 2012
Santa Ynez, CA
Chumash Casino

Monday - 17 - Sep - 2012
Friant, CA
Table Mountain Casino
USA

Friday - 21 - Sep - 2012
West Wendover, NV
Peppermill Concert Hall
USA

Saturday - 22 - Sep - 2012
Henderson, NV
Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino (Ovation Showroom)
USA

Sunday - 23 - Sep - 2012
Scottsdale, AZ
Talking Stick Resort and Casino (Showroom)

In July the band will kick off live European dates in Italy and those dates will continue through into August, taking in Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Austria and the Netherlands ...
No UK date or dates are currently planned for this upcoming run of European dates, but hopefully they'll add at least a London show.

HALESTORM
will kick off a headline tour on June 23rd

Tour supports their most recent release, “THE STRANGE CASE OF…”

- Halestorm recently made history with their electrifying new single, “Love Bites (So Do I)” when the track ascended to #1 at Active Rock radio outlets nationwide, marking the first ever female-fronted group to top the format’s airplay ranking
- The band just wrapped up the Mass Chaos tour with Staind and Godsmack
- “THE STRANGE CASE OF…” made a #1 debut on Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” chart, while also making a top 15 entry onto the overall Billboard 200, upon its release in April

Produced by Howard Benson (who previously collaborated with Halestorm on their self-titled 2009 debut), “THE STRANGE CASE OF…” includes such explosive tracks as “Here’s To Us,” which shot to #1 on iTunes’ “Top Rock Songs” chart after being featured in a February 2012 episode of Fox’s hit series, Glee.  Along with its popular success, “THE STRANGE CASE OF…” has also drawn critical acclaim, with Billboard praising the collection as “full of chugging riffs, wailing solos, drums that kick like a boot to the gut, and never-out-of-style soft/loud dynamics that lead to massive choruses.” “Led by one of our favorite rocker babes, singer-guitarist Lzzy Hale, (Halestorm) promise a more personal album for their follow-up,” noted Revolver in its album preview.  “But don’t expect them to get all sappy on us.  There should still be more than enough of the band’s now signature raucous attitude and righteous riffs for any headbanger to get off.”
Formed by frontwoman Lzzy Hale and her brother, drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm has been hailed far and wide as an incendiary force in modern hard rock.  “HALESTORM” made a top 5 debut on SoundScan’s “Hard Music” chart upon its 2009 release, simultaneously bursting into the top 40 on the comprehensive Billboard 200.   The album subsequently sold more than 300,000 copies, and half a million cumulative tracks.  Produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf), the album earned extensive acclaim for its infectious hard rock anthems, sexy hooks, and rough-and-tumble grooves.  True road warriors, Halestorm made its bones as a major league hard rock outfit via countless North American gigs alongside such artists as Shinedown, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine and Disturbed

Last year saw the band traveling the country on the blockbuster “Avalanche Tour 2011,” joining such hard rock luminaries as Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman, and fellow Atlantic recording group Skillet.

Brief News Update for Thursday 21st June, 2012

Geoff Tate and Queensryche go their separate ways

Well, speculation has been running wild, really for the past six to twelve months if the truth be known ... Will Queensryche, with Geoff Tate on lead vocals, continue?
The answer, catagorically from the other band members is NO!

All other current 'ryche members, sans Tate of course, recently played two low key shows in Seattle with Crimson Glory vocalist, Todd La Torre as 'new' band Rising West, but ...
After the two shows, the band members gave cryptic remarks to press that Rising West was a temporary sideline, before 'they' moved forward with Torre ...
'Chambers of Rock' reported on this back on June 1st ...

Now it's all crystal clear, as the band revealed all to Billboard.com ...

In an exclusive interview with Billboard, Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfield said this:
"Over the past few months, there have been growing creative differences within Queensryche. We want our fans to know that we hoped to find a common resolution, but in the end parting ways with Geoff was the best way for everyone to move forward in a positive direction," drummer Scott Rockenfield said in a statement. "We wish him the best of luck with all of his future endeavors. We can't wait to bring Queensryche to our fans with Todd behind the microphone."

The band have even released an updated photo ..., of Queensryche, featuring Todd La Torre!

The 'new' Queensryche June 2012, with Todd La Torre!

Todd La Torre even said this earlier today on his Facebook page:
'I am not a "former member" of Crimson Glory. Both bands are fully aware of my involvement. Crimson Glory is still alive and well, and we are continuing to write material for the new record. Queensryche enters a new chapter, buckle up.'

Go over to the 'official' Queensryche Facebook page and this statement stands, clearly giving 'their' backing to Geoff Tate:
'Details and statements coming soon. 'LIKE' https://www.facebook.com/GeoffTateOfficial and don't miss a beat.'

Gerry Bron, producer and founder of Bronze Records passes away
March 1933 - June 2012

At the time of this update, it was just breaking that the founder of Bronze Records, Gerry Bron had passed away.

Mick Box of Uriah Heep posted this through the bands website, since Gerry Bron signed Uriah Heep, many, many moons ago to the old Bronze label, from the Vertigo label:

"I have just received an email from Gerry Bron's son Richard,
to say that Gerry had passed away!

Gerry was a big part of the 'Heep legacy in the early days,
and our thoughts are with his family!
Mick Box"

A lot of folks may not be aware of this, but Bronze Records in fact had some other name acts that broke through with them, those acts such as Manfred Mann's Earth Band, even Motorhead (Yuck!), Girlschool too, Hawkwind, Colosseum (Who featured Dave 'Clem' Clempson and Jon Hiseman), Osibisa, Paladin, Sally Oldfield (Mike's sister), UK AOR band Bronz (Who featured Max Bacon of GTR fame, on lead vocals) and even punk rock legends The Damned amongst many ...

He was quite the well known and respected character.

RIP Gerry Bron, our thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Scott Johnson RIP

On a side note, Uriah Heep also had this to say about the tragic death of Scott Johnson, who was killed in the Radiohead tragedy this past weekend:

'We were all saddened to hear the news from Canada that Scott Johnson has died while working on the Radiohead tour.

Scott had previously been a member of the Uriah Heep technical crew, and we all recognized Scott's consummate professionalism, and cheerful disposition, as he effortlessly dealt with life on the road.
We are gutted, and our thoughts are with Scott's friends and family.
Uriah Heep'

Link:

RIP Scott, our sympathies to your family also.

That's really all the relevant news that I have for you today folks, there's odd's and ends, like Def Leppard re-recording old material to wrap up their 'legally binding stuff' with their old label, but that's best read here:

Likewsie Lita Ford hints at possible new Runaways activities, but that remains to be seen, here:

Other than that, not much ...

Lee Aaron releases 'Live in Sweden' from the 2011 Sweden Rock Festival

Lee Aaron's latest release, 'Live in Sweden' at the annual Sweden Rock Festival from 2011, is now available to fans everywhere, exclusively through Lee's site.

Not too much information on this one really, but it is an official release and can be ordered from here:

Seems a little pricey, although it's being sold as an autographed copy...
I think they should make available, non-autographed, to keep the price down for those that would love the material, but can only afford the basic DVD.

It contains the following tracklisting, from Lee's performance at the Sweden Rock Festival event:

'Powerline'
'Concrete And Ice'
'Hands On'
'Baby Go Round'
'Handcuffed To A Fence In Mississippi'
'Sweet Talk'
'Some Girls Do'
'Odds Of Love'
'Barely Holdin’ On'
'Whatcha Do To My Body'
'Metal Queen'
'Do I Move You'
'Bad Boyfriend'

Bonus features include press conference, backstage interview, Lee Aaron’s special message to Sweden Rock fans and tons of pictures!
All DVDs are “Region 0″.
Not available in stores. Available exclusively from www.LeeAaron.com!

I've always thought she had a great voice, even though she went through a spell away from rock, doing what Pat Benatar did with the blues / jazz thing for a while.
Good to see her back on the rock vibe.

Richard Marx new CD/DVD release of PBS TV recording

Richard Marx’s live performance CD/DVD 'A Night Out With Friends' is now available at Amazon here:

Special guests from the show include Hugh Jackman, JC Chasez, Sara Niemietz and Matt Scannell.

The live recording of the PBS series Front Row Center is a CD/DVD combo – CD features 12 tracks (10 live + 2 brand new studio tracks) and the DVD features all 21 tracks of the complete concert (including footage not featured on PBS).

He is also offering a free MP3 download of 'Take This Heart,' if you follow this link to Richard's Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/richardmarxmusic?v=app_260001524093453

Does seem a little strange if you ask me, that this should be released now though, so soon after the recent 2 CD + DVD set through Walmart in the States and Frontiers in Europe?
I guess the CD does have two brand new songs that are not available anywhere else ...

MUDDY WATERS AND THE ROLLING STONES LIVE AT THE CHECKERBOARD LOUNGE CHICAGO 1981

EAGLE ROCK ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE LEGENDARY NIGHT OF BLUES IN 2 CONFIGURATIONS
~July 10, 2012~
New York, NY (June 20, 2012) — Leave it to Eagle Rock Entertainment, the world’s leader in visual music, to come up with a rare gem of rock’n’roll and blues history. July 10 is the street date for the DVD and special two-disc DVD/CD package of Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones 'Live At The Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981.'

Additionally, this delectable slice of American History will also be released as a DVD/2LP vinyl set on September 11.

On November 22, 1981, the Rolling Stones were criss-crossing America on one of their mammoth tours when they had a night off in Chicago, Illinois. What to do? The decision was a no-brainer. Muddy Waters (1915-1983) was in town that night performing at his own juke-joint, The Checkerboard Lounge. It didn’t take long before The Master called up to the stage his students, vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarists Ron Wood and Keith Richards and piano player Ian Stewart. The four Stones wound up jamming with Muddy and his band to the absolute delight of the lucky patrons there that night and, man, they raised the roof.

It was all caught on camera and recorded for posterity.
Now, with the advantage of DTS Surround Sound, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo, mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this 90-minute wang-dang-doodle has been lovingly preserved for the ages. Add Buddy Guy, Junior Wells (1934-1998), and other musicians into the equation and the sum of these parts is not only greater than the whole but worth salivating over. Heretofore only available as a bootleg, this is the complete package that will have musicologists buzzing.

DVD:

1) Sweet Little Angel
2) Flip Flop And Fly
3) Muddy Waters Introduction
4) You Don’t Have To Go

News Update For Tuesday June 19th, 2012

Hi Folks, no, I haven't given up on the site ..., yet!
Wow, I've been away a little while though, eh?
Last week was crazy, the weekend more so but it's time to catch up!

Pretty bummed with certain bands live dates this summer, three bands I'd love to see this summer, might be a tough one to get to see ...
Journey and Boston are both playing in Michigan, but up at Mt Pleasant Casino, yeah, it may only be three or so hours away, but Rhonda and I are both working so much and having no one really available to watch the kids, it just gets tougher to get to shows.
Night Ranger also, not playing Detroit, but downriver a little and toward Toledo, probably about two hours drive with traffic at least, maybe more.
All three bands, I've love to catch and yes, I know I've seen them before, but it's music that I just love so much! Ah well ...
On with the news folks, enjoy!
Cheers, Al

Rolling Stones finally calling time on lengthy career?

If UK tabloid 'rag' the Daily Mirror has got insight into 'some information' then perhaps the Rolling Stones are actually calling it quits?

After starting out in 1962 and releasing their first self titled album in 1964, they produced hit after hit, that you're bound to know at least half a dozen, right off the bat!
Who can forget: '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,' 'Get Off My Cloud,' 'Paint It Black,' 'Brown Sugar,' 'Ruby Tuesday,' 'Jumpin' Jack Flash,' 'Miss You,' 'Angie,' 'Honky Tonk Women' and 'Start Me Up,' just to name a few ...?!

The band still today, includes three of the original members that started the band, all the years ago, in Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts.
Ron Wood joined in 1975 and besides a much publicised 'awkward moment' for Ronnie Wood over 'his' drinking problems - Unreal, when you think of the reputation of the 'other two .... ' - he still remains a part of the band ..., for now!

Over the years, even in more recent years, they somehow manage to pull out all the stops to tour the world at what age?! Realistically, I think unless you're a close friend of the band, you'd be guessing at their real ages!

Anyway, to the latest news that the UK's Daily Mirror is posting ..., that apparently the Rolling Stones will sign off with a farewell performance at the UK's 2013 Glastonbury Festival, after they've played just a 'handful' of exclusive UK and US dates.
You can read the full details right here:

Jon Lord - Concerto studio release set for September

Jon Lord’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra, re-recorded by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a selection of invited guests, is set to be released by Edel Records in September (ABC Records in Australia).

After more than 100 performances worldwide and numerous revisions, the new recording represents Jon’s definitive version of the masterpiece, which in 1969 pointed his career in a new direction and laid the foundation for an astounding musical reputation and career.

Guests and soloists on the new recording include Bruce Dickinson, Joe Bonamassa and Steve Morse along with Jon’s ‘house singers’ Steve Balsamo and Kasia Laska. It was recorded at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall by Abbey Road Studio‘s crew.

The recording was conducted by Paul Mann, whose in-depth experience with the piece includes conducting its 30th anniversary resurrection at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1999 and the ensuing world tour with Deep Purple.

The new release will be accompanied by a specially filmed documentary.
