Late News Update for Wednesday June 13th, 2012

Hi All,
Sorry for lack of news updates lately, busy day today with the kids and to be honest, this week I have my hands full, as Rhonda's company goes through an audit, which she has to lead each time ...
Had a fun day today though, learned a bit about local sports teams, Detroit Tigers and Lions, as the school had a outing for a stadium tour of both teams. Pretty cool ...
Anyway, enough on that ..., on with the news! Cheers, Al

GOTTHARD – “Firebirth” burns in the Top 10: Number 9
in Germany, Number 1 in Switzerland!!

- Gotthard easily takes it up with their previous successes -

Baptism of fire passes the test effortlessly: GOTTHARD is in the same position with
their current album “Firebirth” as they left off with their last album: with Number 9
in the German Media Control Charts, they have reached the Top 10 for the second
time in their history.

In their Swiss homeland, “Firebirth” is the 14th number 1 album in their unique
career!

“We are really happy with this success”, says guitarist Leo Leoni. “After the past difficult
time, Firebirth is like a new beginning for us and is also album number 1 of a new
Gotthard chapter. We want to thank everyone who was involved, particularly our
management, both record labels Nuclear Blast and Musikverttrieb – and of course all
our fans, who have been with us all the way and have been as always like a family to
us. We look upon this success as a joint effort of all of us and our fans too. We are
delighted with the great GOTTHARD teamwork – as Neil Young would say: “Hey, hey,
my, my – Rock ‘n’ Roll will never die!”

In the past few weeks, GOTTHARD has celebrated the release of “Firebirth” together
with many music fans. After appearing before 42,000 spectators with Buelent
Ceylan in the Frankfurt Commerzbank Arena, they rocked last week in front of
25,000 enthusiastic fans at the Sweden Rock Festival … and in the coming weeks,
they will tour round many summer Festivals, before they will travel throughout
Europe on a big headliner tour.

.38 Special celebrating 30th Anniversary of 'Special Forces

.38 Special packs some heat this week 'InTheStudio' for the 30th anniversary of the multi-platinum 'Special Forces' album.

Dallas, TX - JUNE 13, 2012.
North American syndicated rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock heads south to Florida this week where thirty years ago .38 Special, coming off the success of their ‘81 'Wild Eyed Southern Boys' album, would trump even that with the release of their fifth studio album 'Special Forces.'

A Top 10 Billboard album, 'Special Forces' would spawn two Top 40 hits including “Caught Up In You”, but more importantly, singer Donnie Van Zant reminds us that into the 1980s .38 Special was the sole banner carrier of Southern Rock, which had been decimated by deaths in genre definers the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band.

The 38 Special -Special Forces/ InTheStudio program will air on radio this weekend on over 50 radio stations across North America.

20 Years of Terrorvision - New Tour Dates

It’s been twenty (mental) years since Terrorvision unleashed their debut album 'Fomaldehyde' and instant classics like 'My House' and 'American TV' on an unsuspecting world back in 1992.

Amid grunge’s bleak introspection and the slow demise of 1980s hair metal, Terrorvision burst onto the UK scene like a breath of the freshest, finest Yorkshire air. Cutting their teeth supporting legends like The Ramones, Motorhead and Def Leppard, Terrorvision went on to become one of the most successful UK rock bands of the 1990s.

To celebrate this anniversary, and the release of their first album in 10 years –
'Super Delux', the band will be heading out on their only UK tour of 2012 in October.

And where better to announce this than at the home of Metal – Donington and Download, where the band will appear this weekend for the first time since 1994!

Editor's note: I received this press release AFTER this past weekend's Download festival folks.

October's dates will see 20 years of chaos, 6 hit albums and countless more hit singles crammed into a veritable one-night, one-band festival of tunes that get everyone thinking...'jeez, is this one by them as well!'. Smashed up ankles and cactus juice, cross dressing and green bathrooms, doo-wops and dolphins and high jinks from New York to Old Yorkshire have provided a rich vein of inspiration for Bradfords finest.
Join us in October for the highs, the lows, the middle(man), the hits and the lost classics.

Raise your glasses – Terrorvisions Rocktoberfest... it will make you happy!

New album ‘Super Delux’ out now on Total Vegas Recordings at:

Former Harem Scarem singer HARRY HESS to come back with a brand new solo album "Living in Yesterday"

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release HESS new solo album entitled “Living in Yesterday” on August 24th in Europe and August 28th in the US.

Best known for spending 17 years as frontman of Harem Scarem, one of the most well known and respected Melodic Hard Rock bands to come out from Canada, Harry Hess has been redesigning his career as music producer and songwriter.

After the band’s decision to stop recording more albums, the next natural step for Harry was to start working on a solo album which he has been expertly crafting little by little in his Toronto studio. Still the songs included in “Living in Yesterday” are the result of Hess’ travels around the globe over the last few years with stops in Stockholm, Amsterdam, Brussels, Nashville and Germany.

With this CD Harry intends to go back to certain sounds and atmospheres leaning more towards melodic rock music. “This record is more a continuation of where I left off with Harem Scarem” says Harry. “I am a rock singer and it's really hard for me to open up my mouth and sound right doing any other style of music so I really embrace that now and build the production around my vocal style”.

The musicians featured on the album include his former bandmates Pete Lesperance, Creighton Doane and Darren Smith (his former bandmates in Harem Scarem), Tommy Denander, Marcie Free (Unruly Child), Howie Simon (Jeff Scott Soto) and Magnus Karlsson (Primal Fear) among others. “This whole record was built on the co-writes and on the collaborations I have been doing all around the world the past 3 years” continues Harry. “There were some great writers involved and it was fun to try new things but still make it work with what I do”.

“Living In Yesterday” includes the following songs: Living In Yesterday; Reach For You; It's Over; Don't Leave Me; What If; Nothing Lasts Forever; Falling Down; I Live For You; I Don't Wanna Want You; Where To Run.
For samples of four of the tracks, go here:

The new album is a superb slice of Melodic Rock which features a monster vocal performance from Harry, fabulous songwriting and a crisp production. “I've never a big fan of my own work but there are few songs on this record that I feel are some of my best to date”, concludes Harry.

It is possible to stream in full the first song from the album “Living In Yesterday” on the Frontiers Records webradio www.frontiers.it/webradio and on Harry Hess page on Facebook www.facebook.com/harry.hess3

HESS is:

Slight News update for Monday June 11th, 2012

Hi folks, hope you all had a great weekend, how many folks reading this went to the UK's Download festival?

Well, have a great week folks. I was drumming again in public yesterday for the first time in almost three years, one performance yesterday morning and one in the evening, with temperatures outside being 90°F+ ... Loading and unloading gear, a nightmare. Phew!
Anyway, enough on that, Cheers, Al

Download Festival washout Friday 8th June and more

It seems a bunch of band's lost out to the weather and traffic delays on Friday at the UK's Download festival, including Swedish rockers Europe. Later the weather seemed to ease some and organisers got things back on track and for the most part it seemed that the acts that did play, made up for things somewhat, later on.

It was a pretty strange mix for many, crossing over some different genres for sure with The Prodigy headlining Friday night and some serious metal acts, alongside regular rock acts of the melodic / pop rock variety.

I really wouldn't want to be at a festival with such a mix like Download was this year - I do like some of the acts though ... - , for a Friday that looked like this:
The Prodigy, Machine Head, Terrorvision, Fear Factory, Night Wish, Opeth, Little Angels, Lawnmower Deth and Slash to name just a few ...

Saturday's bill was headlined by Metallica, who apparently played a half an hour longer than planned and went down a storm!
Other bands on Saturday's bill had included:
Tenacious D, Biffy Clyro, The Mission, Cockney Rejects, Gun, Killswitch Engage, Halestorm, Saxon, Steel Panther, Theory of a Deadman, The Treatment and many others.

Sunday was seriously an all out metal day and was headlined by Black Sabbath, but also featured:
Anthrax, Soundgarden, Megadeth, Rage Against The Machine, Black Label Society, Lamb of God and many more, but did include some regular rock acts that are often raved about such as:
Furyon, Heaven's Basement, Rival Sons, Sebastian Bach and one of my favourites in Shinedown.

I know that a lot of UK rock fans in recent years, have really taken to Europe in a festival setting, so it must have been pretty disappointing for many there when the band did not appear, as most of them had been stuck in traffic on their way there ...

The band were also disappointed by events and shared this message from the bands frontman Joey Tempest:

We're so gutted!
Not making the gig at Download 2012 happen.

A sincerely heartfelt apology to the people that came to see us at Download and ended up waiting in vain. We tried everything we could to get there in time but in the end it was beyond our control. We have now learned that there were perhaps up to 20000 people waiting in front of our stage at Download to check us out and that there was a massive reaction when the organizers announced Europe couldn't make it!!!! That makes this whole thing even harder to take! We had so been looking forward to this gig!

It started already early in the morning at the airport. Three band members were two hours late flying into Heathrow due to bad weather and backlog at Heathrow. Then we battled up towards Donington in the tourbus. More bad weather and severe traffic prevented us from making up the time necessary. We spent another two hours stuck in traffic. We asked for police escort or smaller cars to transport us the last bit, but they simply coudnt get to us.

In a last desperate effort as we we were getting close to the venue we sent our crew (running) by foot to the venue so they could start setting the gear up! as the toubus coudnt move through the traffic close to the gig.
In the end we just couldn't make it. We were so close, thats why the organizers announced things so late from stage. However, the organizers at Download were cool and invited us to next years Download.

What a truly surreal and disappointing experience. But I guess shit happens and life goes on!

Hope to see you in November on our UK tour. The response to BAG OF BONES have been truly amazing in the UK so we are ready to give something back. The autumn tour will be special indeed.

All the best

Joey / Europe
