Rock News Update for Thursday 23rd, September, 2010

Steven Tyler accepts American Idol role, claims band mates are jealous?

What is the guy trying to do? Seriously!
He can't need the money, it has to simply be attention seeking?!
All the major news sites are making a really big deal out of one of TV most popular shows, 'American Idol' and that Aerosmith frontman - Although for how long now? - Steven Tyler has accepted one of the new judges positions, alongside Jennifer Lopez.
Obviously for the lead singer of one of the USA's most successful rock bands ever, to take on the role of a judge on a TV talent show ..., well I guess it is a big deal!
You can check out a clip from Tyler talking to show host, Ryan Seacrest here on CNN:

Meanwhile entertainment site http://www.tmz.com/ has footage of Tyler being interviewed and the guy says this on the situation with his bandmates, just to stir up his bandmates a little more!
"With the band, we've been married for 40 years now (Five guys) which makes it even worse than women, and I could go for an hour and explain that. At first they were jealous, they heard it through the press and not through me. But then I said to them, 'Four months ago you were looking for another lead singer.' So things go up and down. I spent a stint in Betty Ford [clinic receiving treatment for substance abuse]. But as the band goes, we live on the tail of a comet. And I've been on tour with these guys for 40 years, and they've been judging me every day. And sometimes it hurt (A lot of times) most times, I came out through the wormhole stronger. So it's a real journey with those guys and they would say the same about me. I'm sure they're real happy for me; I mean, this is gonna do nothing more than take it all up another step or two. And it's good; I like it."

I don't know how the band will take this or maybe now the latest tour is behind them, Tyler has time for this, who knows?

GIN BLOSSOMS RETURN WITH 429 RECORDS DEBUT
“NO CHOCOLATE CAKE”

Chart Topping Band Prepare For September 28th Release

Pop rock hit-makers the Gin Blossoms have signed with 429 Records and are preparing for the release of their highly anticipated new album, “NO CHOCOLATE CAKE.” Known for creating indelibly melodic, Grammy-nominated Top Ten singles and platinum-selling albums, Gin Blossoms—Robin Wilson, Jesse Valenzuela, Scott Johnson and Bill Leen, are back and in peak form. The eleven new tracks were written, produced and performed by the band with the help of John Richardson (drums) and Danny Wilde on keyboards and additional production (of The Rembrandts). The first single, “Miss Disarray,” will be promoted at Hot Adult Contemporary radio outlets. “NO CHOCOLATE CAKE” is set for release in North America on September 28th on 429 Records.

Four years after the critically acclaimed “Major Lodge Victory,” Gin Blossoms have put together a seamless musical confection. The band continues to benefit from an innate chemistry and inspiration — a dynamic that helped catapult songs such as “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You,” “Till I Hear From You” and “Follow You Down” into the collective musical consciousness and helped define an era as well as selling 30 million records worldwide.

Says Wilson “There’s just something about the way we play and sound together. It’s those songs and the sound we make that add up to something indefinable.”

“NO CHOCOLATE CAKE” track listing:
1) Don’t Change For Me
2) I Don’t Want To Lose You Now
3) Miss Disarray
4) Wave Bye Bye
5) I’m Ready
6) Somewhere Tonight
7) Go Crybaby
8) If You’ll Be Mine

Motley Crue’s Vince Neil Set to Rock October’s LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals VI in Texas

Dallas, TX, September, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) and Gabe Reed Productions (GRP) are pleased to announce that rock legend Vince Neil of Motley Crue will perform a free concert during the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals VI on Oct. 23.

The LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals and the prestigious Speedtech “Battle For The Belts” takes place on October 22-23 at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX, and Neil will be performing a 75-minute set in front of the capacity crowd on that Saturday evening between the semifinal and final rounds of eliminations.

A veteran rocker of more than 30 years, Neil has been the boisterous front man for Motley Crue, one of the most well-known rock bands in history. Neil’s latest solo effort, “Tattoos & Tequila,” has received rave reviews and his autobiography of the same title is a best seller. Motley Crue has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and Neil has been at the forefront of that extreme lifestyle while performing classic hits like, “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Kickstart My Heart,” and “Dr. Feelgood.” Neil has long enjoyed a special relationship with the racing community and he jumped at the opportunity to perform in front of a huge audience at the Texas Motorplex. “This is a perfect marriage between Vince Neil and the excitement of ADRL drag racing,” promoter Gabe Reed said. “Both are all about living life to the limit and having a good time.”

Now in its sixth year, the ADRL is widely recognized as the nation’s premier sanctioning body for the sport of eighth-mile drag racing thanks to its innovative business model. Drag racing is regarded as one of the fastest growing sports in the world and the ADRL is at the forefront of that movement. Its unique complimentary ticket approach has led to unprecedented growth and capacity crowds at each of the 10 events on its annual national tour, and mixing rock n’ roll and drag racing is sure to attract a raucous crowd. “It’s going to be great for fans to experience all the memorable ADRL action and one of the greatest rock n’ roll legends during the same weekend,” ADRL President and CEO Kenny Nowling.

“By adding Vince Neil to the already amazing entertainment package the ADRL has to offer, this is sure to be one of the most sought after tickets in entertainment history, and they’re free!”

David Bowie "Rare and Unseen" on DVD 11/23

An icon's story told through truly rare and unseen archival footage
The next title in the 'Rare and Unseen' series looks at the British actor, producer and musician for five decades: David Bowie.

Most famous for his alter-ego, the ostentatious, androgynous "Ziggy Stardust" during the glam-rock era of the early 1970s, Bowie has continually reinvented his music and image and is regarded as an influential innovator, particularly in rock music. He has had numerous top ten hits, most notably China Girl, Modern Love, Starman, Space Oddity, Under Pressure and Let's Dance, amongst others. Bowie is also a multi-instrumentalist, singing vocals as well as playing Electric, Acoustic, and Twelve String Guitar, Keyboards, Alto, Tenor, Piano, Harmonica, Xylophone, Tambourine, Drums, Percussion and many other instruments, making him one of the most multi-talented musicians in the world.

Told through missing-believed-wiped archive interviews and rare and unseen footage, this insightful DVD is a worthy addition to any Bowie collection. Items genuinely unseen and never before appeared on DVD including film from the ITN archive. Includes lost and now restored TV interviews from the past and rare film of the singer talking about his career.

Featuring:
UNSEEN: RUSSELL HARTY interview- restored for 16:9
RARE: New York Interview 1999
UNSEEN: Candid admissions on drugs and the Berlin days
RARE: Press Conference performance
UNSEEN: Janet Street Porter backstage before gig
RARE: Rehearsal footage

.... And finally ...

Ronnie James Dio's house is up for sale ...

I guess it has to be a very sad thing for Wendy Dio to have to do, but the home that she shared with singing legend Ronnie James Dio (RIP) is up for sale, according to 'The Huffington Post.'
I'm sure with so many memories and personal history for her, it has to be tough to remain in the home with Ronnie now gone.
It's still extremely sad to accept for many of the fans and no doubt of course for Ronnie's family, with Ronnie ever obvious, youthful and humourous approach on all things.
You can check out more details on the house sale - More like a castle to be honest! - and view the home too and of course if you've just over $3M to spare, go ahead and place a bid!
It looks wonderful.
