Seven Deadly is an atmospherically dense fabric consisting of classy guitars, tight rock grooves and vocals which are unique to UFO. So it's no wonder that sound engineer Tommy Newton, in whose Area 51 studio in Celle, Germany, the new tracks were recorded, commented: "I've never heard a better Phil Mogg!"

The UFO frontman's thoroughly impressive vocal performance goes hand in hand with the awesome compositions on Seven Deadly. The classic rock of 'Burn Your House Down' features all the important UFO strengths, 'Mojotown' sees the musicians sound tougher than ever, and last but not least 'Year Of The Gun' features a pointed reference to UFO's early days.

And finally .....

Does this look like a cool summer tour or what?!

It seems the 'Rock Never Stops Tour' is back for 2012 and I for one think this bill looks fantastic!
I wish I had live dates I could share with you, but as of right now, there's no more than this flyer, from management company ARM Entertainment.
http://www.armentertainment.com

With talk of a new album from Dokken already leaked, under the working title of 'Broken Bones,' not to mention new albums from both Firehouse and Trixter, these bands will certainly be up for it!
Dokken new album story source:

Quiet Riot currently, do not know who to put in the lead vocalist role, following the band's recent bust up with Mark Ruff ... I believe currently it is Robert Mason (Lynch Mob, Warrant), I guess we'll see!

Y&T of course release the excellent 'Facemelter' album two years back now and sadly lost original bassist Phil Kennemore (RIP), but have moved on and are currently doing the rounds in the clubs right now!
Would be nice to hear a new album though ...

Mollo / Martin ‘The Third Cage’ album review

Mollo / Martin ‘The Third Cage’ album review
Released on: Frontiers records. Release Date: Available now

Dario Mollo – For those who don’t know - is a greatly respected Italian guitarist, who has already worked with Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion) in the project Voodoo Hill, Don Airey (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne), Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, M.S.G., Alcatraz) and Tony Franklin (Blue Murder, Paul Rodgers, Jimmy Page) to name just a few.

Tony Martin really got everyone’s attention as a singer when he stepped into Black Sabbath in 1987, following a long line of respected vocalists, including of course, Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan.

Dario Mollo started putting together a new project, already involving Don Airey around 1999 and Tony Martin’s name was thrown into the ring and thus came the first collaboration as Mollo / Martin with ‘The Cage.’

A second album followed in 2002, that included Tony Franklin, before this latest release, ‘The Third Cage.’

This to me is a seriously heavy album in places and I say that, while sharing with you that I really liked some of Tony Martin’s work with (Black) Sabbath.
His voice on here often reminds me of Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson during the high points – High notes - and even the late, great Ronnie James Dio at other times.

Opening track ‘Wicked World’ is dirty, heavy and wow!
It’s funny how the wailing guitar here and there, every time I hear it now brings to mind Zakk Wylde's playing in the Rock Star movie, with the fictitious band Steeldragon.

‘Cirque Du Freak’ next very much reminds me of good old Ronnie James Dio’s style and it’s an interesting track, capturing some great hook lines, some killer playing from Mario Mollo.

Wow! Next track ‘Oh My Soul’ is very much in the vein of Ronnie period Rainbow, including some great guitar work once more from Mario. Tony’s voice at times is eerily like Ronnie, in a similar manner to how Doogie White often nails it.

In an effort to also capture some good old melodic rock on here, ‘One of the Few’ captures it very well indeed!
Great track, I love it!

‘Still In Love With You’ is a good heavy number, once again bringing to mind some of the Dio era Rainbow, but Dario goes out there some in his guitar work.

With ‘Wardance’ next it’s starts in an eerie fashion and then the guitar kicks in, with what sounds like a slightly off key riff, but interesting style, deeper in there’s some serious riffing here.
Sounds like something Glenn Hughes would capture on his rock / funk releases and Tony even tries to throw his own twist to it too.

‘Don’t Know What It Is About You,’ is a really strong melodic rock song and Dario even gives a nod to Eddie Van Halen in some of the harmonics here, tasty solo too! Nice one!

With ‘Blind Fury’ it’s back to the heavier edge that they have. Dirty guitar and strong menacing vocals again from Martin!

Closing track ‘Violet Moon’ starts as a beautiful gentle ballad, before developing into the true power ballad style and then in the solo section, Dario shreds some and then the song gets back into power ballad territory. Interesting and good stuff!

Not a bad album at all, after taking a few initial plays to really warm to it.
Really love the album cover too, wicked!

Van Halen - Live review! - The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI.

Van Halen – A Different Kind of Truth tour – live review
Guest Reviewer: Pete Salvato

The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI.
February 20th, 2012

There’s a new Van Halen album out there now and Van Halen version 2012, is hitting the road again!
This past Monday evening, a good friend of mine, scored tickets for the show and volunteered to provide a review for me or should that be, for you folks?!

My very special thanks go out to Pete Salvato, a very good friend, D.J. and sometime vocalist!
Sadly Pete did not manage to secure any photos from the evening, but, he certainly provides something to say about the whole event!
Over to you Pete!

So this was the second show on the band’s first leg of the current tour, in support of new album, ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ the first album of ‘all new’ material with David Lee Roth on vocals since 1984’s ... Er, ‘1984!’

Editor’s note: All new – now - released material that is, with word that some of the material dates back some years, many folks that have heard it have been wondering if perhaps more if not all of it wasn’t from some time back?

As the lights go down, the crowd reacts, anticipating the passion and excitement of Van Halen walking on stage, and then the first chord of Eddie Van Halen's guitar, Alex's (Van Halen) drums and Dave's scream, the crowd dare I say it, exuberate into an eruption!

Editor’s note: Cheesy Pete! LOL!

Everyone at the Palace was up on their feet, standing and pumped up!

David Lee Roth was as vintage as is a fine wine. The ultimate showman it seems had the crowd in the palm of his hand, as they started where it all began, with ‘You Really Got Me.’ However, I will say that, they could have started out with ‘Eruption’ prior to ‘You Really Got Me,’ but nevertheless, this crowd wanted Van Halen period, no matter what or how they would have started the evenings events!

They could have opened the show with ‘Poundcake,’ with Dave singing and the crowd would’ve have said ‘Wow!’
It was not to be though …

‘Running With The Devil’ followed with the crowd singing along to the versus and choruses, while keeping the same intensity.

The entire show provided passion, excitement and a great exchange from the band, to the crowd, back and forth. The reception for the new songs, ‘She's The Woman,’ ‘China Town,’ ‘Tattoo’ and ‘The Trouble With Never,’ received a great reaction, along with the classics such as ‘Everybody Wants Some,’ ‘Mean Street,’ ‘Oh Pretty Woman,’ ‘Dance The Night Away,’ ‘Hot For Teacher’ and ‘Panama.’ Also a few rare live appearances for songs such as, ‘Romeo's Delight,’ ‘Women in Love’ and ‘Girl Gone Bad.’

They each played solos, with the exception of ‘Wolfie’Wolfgang Van Halen - although he did well on the bass.

Alex did a jazz fusion reggae style which is reminiscent of Neil Peart's (Rush) drum technique.

Dave did an acoustic solo spot, while speaking about the video of ‘Mikey and Benny’ his two dogs, ‘I was watching Rod Stewart on TV and they showed his family. I thought I'd show mine …’

Eddie did his classic ‘Eruption / 316’ guitar solo which is a pure staple at a Van Halen show ...

The encore was ‘Jump’ and as with ‘I'll Wait,’ there were no keyboards present on stage in front of Eddie, they used a sampler backing keyboard track which I was not too impressed with ...

Editor’s note: Previously the band had used former Night Ranger keys man Alan ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald to back them up, with him playing out of sight of the crowd. I’m guessing they had someone doing the same this time around.

The rapport on stage between the band, was as if to use the old expression of getting back on the bike that you used to ride and getting back on it to ride it again, many years later and remembering exactly what to do!

Overall, this show was terrific! Van Halen showed their staying power with the songs and with their stage persona. Dave used a headset, which would give him room on stage to dance and twirl, although however, Dave did not do his classic jump off the drum riser, doing the splits in midair!

Eddie showed us all once more, why he is a guitar hero, flawless and effortless.

The band are back with a bang and ‘A Different Kind Of Truth.’
Go see Van Halen when you can, you will be thoroughly entertained, I was!

Slight News Update for Tuesday February 21st, 2012

Sonisphere Festival 2012!

Queen fronted by Adam Lambert headline Saturday night

With a quarter of a century having since passed, rock legends QUEEN are to return to play a second concert at the venue that provided them with the setting for one of their biggest and most historic concerts.
QUEEN’s Brian May and Roger Taylor have confirmed the band will headline the second day of SONISPHERE appearing on the APOLLO stage on Saturday July 7. KNEBWORTH was the setting for QUEEN’s final concert with Freddie Mercury in August 1986.

May and Taylor also confirmed that for this very special event they will be joined by US singer-songwriter ADAM LAMBERT.
The potent chemistry between QUEEN and Lambert broke the surface when at the invitation of Brian May and Roger Taylor, Lambert joined them for the closing showcase at the recent MTV Europe Awards where QUEEN were present to collect their Global Icon award.
Says Brian May: “Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush.”

Kiss to headline Friday night!

Shooting rockets. Blood spitting. Face Paint. Shiny Boots and utterly jaw dropping triumphant live shows: SONISPHERE is proud to announce KISS as Friday’s headliner. With a reputation for being perhaps the most flamboyant and entertaining band on the planet, the American Kings will bring their stage extravaganza to SONISPHERE as their only European performance of 2012. While many bands have been chasing the eye liner shock horror dollar and have come and gone without changing the face of music as we know it, KISS have gone from strength to strength garnering praise, success and too many accolades to mention throughout the years, selling over 100 million albums worldwide and counting as the band is poised to unleash new album ‘Monster’ in June 2012.

Says the band:
“You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world, KISS”.
SONISPHERE festival is KISS’ invitation to have the best time of your life with long lost friends such as the anthemic ‘Rock N Roll All Night’, the jubilant singalong ‘I Was Made For Lovin’ You’ and the rallying cry of ‘God Gave Rock N Roll to You’. We would ask you to lock up your daughters, girlfriends and wives, but with Gene Simmons in town, it’s pretty clear there’s no stopping them. And if you can’t fight them, join them at their only European show of 2012.

Faith No More top of the bill Sunday!

For the final, Sunday night, SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH is proud to announce the legendary FAITH NO MORE as the headline act on the APOLLO stage.
Onstage irreverent, uncompromising, unpredictable and dazzling at every turn, FNM have been setting new standards in exciting rock performance for more than two decades now. With classics such as ‘Falling To Pieces’, ‘Epic’, ‘Midlife Crisis’ and ‘Be Aggressive’, Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton are poised to set KNEBWORTH on fire when they close the last night at SONISPHERE with their only UK appearance of 2012. Says bassplayer Billy Gould:
“It was over 2 years ago when we decided to reform and play those amazing UK shows. The good news is, we’ve had a couple of years to improve our skills; moving our song to error ratio down 3.5 full percentage points. Watch out UK, we’re going to do it right this time!!”

Alice Cooper ready to take 2012 by storm!

With a music career that started over 40 years ago, the legendary Alice Cooper is always current and in the forefront of entertainment. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who created the concept of the theatrical rock concert, brings his spectacular stagecraft and flamboyant showmanship to this year’s Bonnaroo Festival June 9th alongside other headline artists Radiohead, Bon Iver, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. Alice Cooper, who single-handedly masterminded the rock-horror genre, then joins Iron Maiden as their very special guest on their MAIDEN ENGLAND North American Tour from June 21 to July 21.

Said Alice, "I'm very excited that Iron Maiden has asked us to share the stage with them in North America. The last few summers we performed on some Maiden shows, and my band and I and the audiences all had a great time. Both of us on one bill provides the audience with two entirely different shows, and some of Maiden's fans may have never seen my show live, so believe me we're BRINGING IT!"

When it comes to touring, Cooper provides his fans with a visual and aural extravaganza including everything and more from his trademark guillotines, decapitations, predatory snakes, as well as a non-stop, hard rocking show featuring his classic hits, and other fan favorites.
Alice Cooper’s 2011 album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, which debuted at #22 on Billboard’s Top 200, is a testament to Cooper’s ability to incorporate various collaborations - including global pop superstar Ke$ha - into his own unique musical style.

Alice Cooper’s Welcome 2 My Nightmare is the long-awaited sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome to My Nightmare. The original album was a landmark album for Cooper. It was his first solo release, following a historic string of anthems written and recorded by his original band between 1971 and 1974, including “School’s Out,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “Elected,” and “I’m Eighteen.” Welcome to My Nightmare is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and pioneered a U.S. TV special, and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer, whose influence continues today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.

Earlier this week, Cooper announced the nominees for Revolver Magazine's Golden God Awards in Los Angeles. Last year, Cooper received Revolver’s “Golden God” award, a special recognition given to one special artist each year who represents metal and hard rock.

Before Alice embarks on tour, he sits down with VH1’s That Metal Show’s Eddie Trunk for a one-on- one conversation about his legacy as well and his current album and tour, air date TBC.
Alice is also the host of Nights with Alice Cooper, a 5-hour nightly radio show offering listeners a block of classic rock music, features and interviews delivered to affiliates via satellite six nights per week. The show debuted in January 2004 and is now in its 9th year on the air. Nights with Alice Cooper is a production of the United Stations Radio Network and is broadcast on more than 110 stations in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia, and is also supported by an active social network of Alice’s “Minions,” who participate along with Alice and the radio show via Facebook and Twitter.

ZEROKING IS SET ON SELF DESTRUCTION

(Huntington, WVa - 20 February 2012) Rising West Virginia hard rockers, Zeroking have just released their first full length album (and third effort overall), Kings of Self Destruction via new upstart label, Vanity Music Group.
Equal parts classic metal ala Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue and modern hard rock in the vein of Hinder and Buckcherry, Kings Of Self Destruction covers all the bases. Kicking off with the slamming, "Dead Rockstar", the band tears through an hour's worth of material, including the hook laden first single, "Stone Cold Bitch", the southern rock flavoured, "Southern Lady X Godiva", the pop oriented, "Love Is Dead" (which features Stacee Lawson on a duet) and the melancholic "Valentine."
13 songs in total, the digital version of Kings of Self Destruction also features an additional 3 bonus tracks.
"The album really takes the listener on a journey through a wide range of emotions," says Zeroking frontman, Andy Haught. "A lot happened in all our lives during the writing process ranging from divorces to the band literally self destructing but in the end,we had a strong batch of songs that rock really hard yet show our wide spectrum of influences."

Formed in 2005, Zeroking has become a top drawing act in the Mid Atlantic region, sharing the stage with the likes of Anthrax, Twisted Sister, Bobaflex, Dope, Black Stone Cherry and many, many other acts.
