News Update for Monday February 20th, 2012

Hi there folks,
Well, here's hoping you all had a good weekend?
Yes, I've been pretty quiet on here over the weekend I know and usually you get to see a review or two posted here and yes, I'm slacking ..., at least on the site!
It's been very much a family weekend that was really needed, but I will share this though, on Saturday morning I had a good chat with Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie Malmsteen), which was something else and it was not what I expected and sometimes our connection got a little muffled in places or maybe that was just Joe's Jersey accent! LOL! Sorry Joe, but there were a few moments and a few names you mentioned that I don't know if I heard them right, but ... Well, you'll get to read the interview folks - As much as I can print! - as soon as I can get to it, after typing up the Howard Leese and David Paich ones!

Anyway, aside from the busy weekend, for this week there's going to be a new giveaway in a collaboration with the fine folks at GMC

GMC or is a dreamworld essentially for guitarists or aspiring guitarists who are looking to learn more, start from scratch or ..., well, just go and check the site out and you'll see what I am talking about.

Yes indeed, Chambers of Rock and are pleased to be able to offer, one very lucky reader of 'Chambers of Rock' a years subscription at as the prize.
This is something that would normaly cost you $110 (USD) for the year, but it's coming up for grabs, right here at Chambers of Rock!
At the end of todays news, you'll find details of how to win this most likely much desired gift subscription and it will go to the first correct answer, but more details on that later.
OK, on with the news folks, have a great week, cheers, Al

BLACK SABBATH -- who late last year confirmed the recording of their first new album in more than 33 years and a worldwide headlining tour--have had to put some plans on hold due to Tony Iommi´s battle with lymphoma. At this time, BLACK SABBATH will perform only one show of this summer´s previously scheduled European tour. It will take place Sunday, June 10 at the ,U.K.´s Download Festival.
So as not to let the promoters and fans down, OZZY OSBOURNE will now perform the majority of the previously scheduled BLACK SABBATH dates (both festival performances and the headlining shows) billed as OZZY and FRIENDS. These "first ever" OZZY and FRIENDS shows will feature appearances by "special guest" musicians including GEEZER BUTLER (who will join Ozzy for a special BLACK SABBATH set as a show of respect and support to their friend, Tony Iommi) and longtime former OZZY band member Zakk Wylde. In addition, OZZY will be accompanied by longtime collaborator and friend Slash at select shows, with other "special guests" set to join the tour at various stops along the way (full list of dates, appearances below).
Tony Iommi continues to make excellent progress and is looking forward to getting back out on the road. Meanwhile, BLACK SABBATH continues to write and record music in the U.K. for their upcoming album.
More information about these dates and BLACK SABBATH´s recording and touring plans is forthcoming.

In an updated message from Bill Ward on the whole current situation, the original Black Sabbath drummer, issued this statement at his site:

Dear Sabbath Fans,
I wanted to let you know where things are at, from my point of view, as of today, February 17, 2012.
As my statement of February 2, 2012 indicated, I have not declined to participate in the Sabbath album and tour. At the earliest opportunity, I am prepared to go to the U.K. and record, and later tour with the band.

Last week, we sent further communication to the attorney handling the negotiations to try to reach an agreement. At this time we are waiting to hear back. I remain hopeful for a “signable” contract and a positive outcome.

I want to thank everyone who has voiced and posted their opinions, thoughts, support and love through all media, including the newly constructed sites. I applaud your worldwide reaction in support of the original band. And speaking for myself, your intent and truth will always be respected.
While believing in your freedom for expression, keep in mind that Tony, Ozzy and Geezer are still my lifetime friends, and I cannot support comments with an objectifying or derogatory theme toward them or their various representatives.

Many thanks to all of you. You are truly phenomenal.
Stay safe, stay strong.
– Bill Ward

Well, I have to say, if you're still a Van Halen fan and have bought tickets for the current tour - It hits Detroit tonight (Monday), I won't be there ... - the live set that they opened with in Louisville, Kentucky, doesn't look half bad at all!

2. Runnin’ With The Devil
3. She’s The Woman (NEW)

5. Tattoo (NEW)
6. Everybody Wants Some!!
7. Somebody Get Me A Doctor

Competition time!
It's giveaway time! Get your thinking caps on folks ...

Whatever the case, will probably have something for you!
Here's a couple of links, for a taster of what they have on offer:
The fine people there have offered, in conjunction with Chambers of Rock - Well, OK, it's their prize but just go with me on this ... - a one full year subscription to worth a respectable $110 (USD) so it's nothing to be sniffed at, right?
One such guitarist that has been featured there, is virtuoso player Vinnie Moore who is currently a part of UFO, well, he has been for a few years now ...
Well, the competition here is two question challenge, starting with one that relates to Vinnie Moore and UFO.
Earlier this month, in a Chambers of Rock news piece, I shared with you, that Guitar World magazine - Yes, I did say Guitar World, it's not a trick question there! - was streaming a new UFO track.
Question one is this: What was the title of that track being streamed?
Another guitarist related question is is Question two and you'll have to think about this one, as it's not as straightforward as you think ...
In 2007 Night Ranger parted ways with an original guitar player in the band, who was very briefly replaced with quite a name guitarist ...
Joel Hoekstra is the current player in that role, but who was the name player that Joel replaced?
OK then, if you're a real guitarist's guitar playing fan, that likes hard rock, you should figure it out easy enough. If not, you know there's way's of searching this stuff out!
Good luck!
The first person to email me at: with the two correct answers, wins that subscription!
Competition rules:
1. This is open to all, everyone! - No postage for me to pay on this one! LOL!
2. Competition closes on Friday 24th February at 11:59pm EST.
3. Both questions must be answered correctly and you may only enter once and those two answers emailed to me directly.
4. All entries must have your full name and email address.
