Frontiers Records to release “Dio”, JORN’s offer to the musical legacy of the great singer

Napoli, May 2010 - The Norse God of Metal. The leader of the renaissance of classic Hard Rock on its highest level. One of the most prolific and sought-after singers of today, whose vocal talent has reserved him a place amongst the greatest giants in the history of Rock. This is Jorn Lande and now he offers his talents to honour the musical legacy of Ronnie James Dio, with his new album aptly entitled “Dio”, to be released on Frontiers Records on July 2nd in Europe and July 27th in the US.

Handpicking some lesser known tunes of the Dio era, along with some of the true classics, Jorn offers a fine collection of songs that present the music of the Man and the Artist, with a unique twist. In Jorn Lande’s own words: “Throughout the years I have had the privilege of both meeting and working with many of the musicians that have inspired me on my musical journey. Ronnie James Dio has inspired me through decades, and this man's influence continues to add colour to my creative spirit. Ever since the first time I heard his royal roar back in the 70's, I have been fascinated by this extremely talented man's creative force and dedication to music. His career has been going on for so long and includes so many great songs, that it was a challenge to decide which songs and what era to focus on. I ended up focusing on the DIO era”.

The album also includes an original song for which a videoclip, shot by Thomas Tjader (Pretty Maids, In Flames) was produced. Jorn says “I wrote 'Song for Ronnie James' as a tribute and a personal thanks to the man who has been my mentor for more than 35 years. This great man has affected my life and career in such a way that without his presence, I would not have become the artist I am today”.

The “Song for Ronnie James” videoclip can be watched on Youtube:

Either as front man in German metal act Masterplan, which has achieved great success around the world, or as guest in spectacular projects such as Tobias Sammet’s “Avantasia”, or in the Allen / Lande’s releases, Jorn Lande is today a trademark for quality Hard Rock music. “Dio” is the new chapter in Jorn’s history and a sincere and heartfelt “thank you” to a great and influential Artist.

“Dio” was mixed by Tommy Hansen, Jailhouse Studios, and the final tracklisting includes the following tracks: Song For Ronnie James; Invisible; Shame on the Night; Push; Stand Up And Shout; Don't Talk to Strangers; Lord Of The Last Day; Night People; Sacred Heart; Sunset Superman; Lonely Is The Word / Letters From Earth (2010 version); Kill The King*; Straight Through The Heart (live). After a triumphant tour kick-off and a gold album from their home country Germany for "Sting in the Tail", the rockers were honored anew: The Scorpions received the World Music Award at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club on May 18th, in presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco. Back in 1992 and again in 1994, the band proudly accepted the award for "Best International Selling Artist from Germany". However, this time, were awarded with the World Music "Rock Legend Award" for their outstanding contribution to rock music. The show was aired in over 160 countries around the world, including Japan and China. More than 100 million viewers were said to have tuned in. The event was a logistical challenge for the Scorpions: after performing in front of sold out crowds in Germany and Switzerland, all five members of the band accepted the award, right before they had to depart for a concert in Paris. They will be back to complete the German leg of their Get Your Sting and Blackout Farewell World Tour on May 29, where they will rock the Capitol city Berlin. The Rolling Stones 1969-1974 - The Mick Taylor Years Coming to DVD on July 27
The story behind The Stones' finest era...

Often regarded as the period in which The Rolling Stones recorded the finest music of their career, the years during which Mick Taylor was the fifth Stone remain the band's 'Golden Age'. Notably, on albums Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street the Stones' sound changed as they developed new ideas and were informed by a range of new influences. But crucially it was Taylor's sophisticated blues and jazz licks that gave The Rolling Stones an added dimension between 1969 and 1974 - one they lacked both before and afterwards. This dynamic film tells the behind the scenes story of this hugely productive era for the group.

Featuring interviews with Taylor himself and further contributions from his old boss, John Mayall; author and group colleague, Robert Greenfield; Village Voice music editor, Robert Christgau; Stones session musicians, Al Perkins and Bill Plummer; highly regarded UK music critic, Barney Hoskyns and many others. The program also includes liberal performance footage of The Stones, archive footage and interviews, numerous seldom seen photographs and a host of other features.

Extras include:
- 'Meet Mick' - John Mayall and music historian Alan Clayson tell the Mick Taylor story, prior to his entry into The Rolling Stones.
- Contributor Biographies

Dweezil Zappa: “Van Halen played me some new stuff from his record”

Friday, 21 May 2010 Eddie Van Halen hasn’t talked to the press in a while, but one of his his friends has - Dweezil Zappa told Glide Magazine that he has been hanging with his old friend Eddie Van Halen recently, and that Eddie played him some of his “new stuff from his record”!
These snippets from the interview ... Posted at Van Halen's News Desk:

Glide Magazine: How did growing up around your father and the countless amazing musicians he employed change the course of your musical development?

Dweezil Zappa: The thing is, I could always tell that what my dad did was on a different level than other music that I heard, so I always had this sense of, you know, “I could never do that.” So the music that got me inspired to play guitar was different from my dad’s music. My first biggest influences were Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen. I never got to meet Randy Rhoads, but I did get to meet Eddie Van Halen. So seeing how he did things up close really changed my abilities quickly, because when you can see how somebody does something up close, if you’re the type of person that’s going to spend some time practicing, it’s like I had all these images that were burned into my mind forever that started that whole thing.
It’s kind of funny, because I’ve recently been spending some time with Eddie Van Halen after being out of touch for a while. He was playing me some new stuff from his record, and I was playing him some stuff that I had been working on for this project, you know, playing Frank’s music. He actually came to the Jeff Beck show the other day too. [Dweezil is talking about the recent LA show on 4/17/10 when he opened for Jeff Beck - VHND] But one thing that was actually a pivotal and hilarious thing to me was that I was showing him some stuff, these different ways I had worked out to play quintuplets, and he said “Uh, you lost me there. I don’t even know what you’re talking about. Who would have thought after all these years, you’d be giving me a guitar lesson.” To me, that was hilarious because I couldn’t have envisioned that myself, and also the flipside of him coming to a show of mine when I had been to so many of his. There he was, in the dressing room before we went on, and we saw him after the show and everything, and it’s just such a role reversal. But it’s definitely a strong and good memory for me because I think it would have to be really be rare for anybody to have the ability to have that kind of communication with the thing or the person that inspired you so much to begin with, and have this mentor type of relationship and have some common ground in a different way after all these years. It is a unique and cool experience to have.
